CVE-2020-1954

Severity

5.3

Description

Apache CXF has the ability to integrate with JMX by registering an InstrumentationManager extension with the CXF bus. If the ‘createMBServerConnectorFactory‘ property of the default InstrumentationManagerImpl is not disabled, then it is vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle (MITM) style attack. An attacker on the same host can connect to the registry and rebind the entry to another server, thus acting as a proxy to the original. They are then able to gain access to all of the information that is sent and received over JMX.

Mitigation

We recommend upgrading to a version of this component that is not vulnerable to this specific issue. Alternatively, if upgrading is not a viable option, it is possible to mitigate this vulnerability by disabling the `createMBServerConnectorFactory` property of the default `InstrumentationManagerImpl`.

Note: If this component is included as a bundled/transitive dependency of another component, there may not be an upgrade path. In this instance, we recommend contacting the maintainers who included the vulnerable package. Alternatively, we recommend investigating alternative components or a potential mitigating control.
